May 2019 Newsletter

Good morning to our fellow quilters, sewers, and crafters! We hope your Wednesday is off to a great start. If not, why don't you grab a cup of coffee or tea as we give you a glimpse at the latest happenings and products here at the store.
This week we're staying particularly busy, due to the fact that in two short days, on May 3rd & 4th, we'll be hosting our annual Anniversary Sale. This is an in-store only sale, in which you'll receive 30% off your entire purchase (excludes handmade items and quilts). It's our biggest sale of the year, so you won't want to miss it!

In celebration of our 54th Anniversary, we thought we'd share a little bit about the history of Miller's Dry Goods and how it became the store that we know and love today:

Miller's Dry Goods, Holmes County's first quilt shop, was founded in 1965 by Amanda Miller. It was first located in one corner of her kitchen, in the house that sits next to our present day fabric store (You may also know it today as the Rural Thimble Quilt Retreat). Soon, more space was required so the business was moved into her father's house next door (the present day fabric store), while he moved in with Amanda and her family. Over the years, many additions have been added to the fabric store to accommodate the expanding business. In 1994, the barn beside the store was remodeled to allow for even more space, and today it houses our quilts & handmade items, along with our homespun, flannel, and cuddle fabrics.
Amanda passed away in April of 2005. From then, up until 2016 the store remained in the family with the ownership transferring between her kids. In 2016, one of the employees, Naomi Miller, and her husband took over the ownership of the store and are still the owners today.
The small little fabric store that started in a kitchen has grown into a 2 shop desination that boasts thousands of bolts of fabric, plus hundreds of notions, patterns, books, stencils, and rulers. Not to mention, we also carry a large variety of handmade items, like potholders, wall hangings, wallets, and more.

1965 Fun Facts:
In case you were interested, here's a few other things that happened within the same year that Miller's Dry Goods got started.
1) Diet Pepsi was first introduced
2) The Pillsbury Doughboy made his debut
3) Shania Twain was born
4) A gallon of gas cost $0.31
